Laser and Plasma Cutting Services

At Metal Services of Blooming Prairie, we provide both laser and plasma cutting services to produce custom shapes from aluminum, stainless steel, and carbon sheets. Both of these technologies are capable of producing high quality components with a high quality edge, but there are different advantages to each, depending on the application. For thinner metals, typically less than 0.1875", or applications which require higher precision, laser cutting is often ideal. Our 4000 Watt CO2 laser cutting system has a flying optics configuration for maximum cutting speed and versatility. Material cut using a flying optics laser does not typically require clamping because the work table is held stationary, greatly reducing set-up time. Our laser cutting table is capable of accommodating sheets up to 12' in length and 6' in width.

As thicknesses increase, plasma cutting generally becomes the more efficient process. Our 260 amp high definition plasma cutting system is capable of holding sheet and plate material up to 24' in length and 8' in width. While the laser cutter is capable of cutting carbon steel up to 0.75", the high definition plasma cutter is capable of processing carbon steel plate up to 2" thick. In addition to thickness and precision, there are a variety of factors that determine which cutting method is optimal for a given application, and our engineers can go over these parameters with customers on an individual basis.
